Barcelona and Catalonia has become one of the first tourist destination of Spain, it has everything to please the majority of visitors : with a history among the oldest in Europe, a capital, Barcelona, which never sleeps and an inland full of charm not to forget beautiful beaches in La Costa Brava. The variety of artistic treasures, the Romanesque churches and the great names in modern art and architecture , Dali, Gaudi, Miro, Picasso and more.
Barcelona sited between the sea and the mountains, has found a formidable balance: a foot in the traditional things and the other in the avant-garde. Barcelona has the reputation of being the most cosmopolitan, modern and avant-garde city in Spain and it has renewed for the 1992 Olympic Games.
For sun worshippers, Barcelona is just what you’re looking for! It’s coastline stretches for 4.5km and offers the tourists a wide variety of excellent beaches. The most popular beaches among our visitors include Barceloneta, Mar Bella, Nova Icaria and Bogatell.
A pilot project in 2021: Barcelona is launching “Smoke-free beaches” from 29 May to 12 September 2021 on four beaches in the city. Smoking will not be allowed on the beaches of Sant Miquel, Somorrostro, Nova Icària and Nova Mar Bell. The councillor for Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition, Eloi Badia, explains that the aim of the project is to protect the health of citizens and the environment, as around 15% of cigarette butts in Barcelona end up in the sea.
Barceloneta is probably the closest beach to the city and the easiest way to get to this beach is by catching the yellow line metro. Walking from the city takes about 20 minutes. Barceloneta is a wide long beach full of restaurants, which are mostly American style and bars.
The Nova Icaria beach is quite close to the Olympic Marina and is full with fantastic beachside bars and restaurants. If you are visiting this beach, make sure the sample the cuisine in Mango and Chiringuito restaurants.
